WESLI has a Housing Coordinator who will arrange housing for you in the
WESLI dormitory or in a homestay with an American family. In shared housing
situations, the Housing Coordinator makes every effort to place students
from different countries together. She will also help you with any problems
you might have in your living situation. If you choose to live in a dormitory
or with an American family, you must stay for one WESLI session before
moving.
These two options have about the same total cost — less than
$550 per month; however, the costs associated with housing may vary from
year to year. Please refer to the WESLI Summary
of Cost chart for current
information.
Homestay With An American Family
Staying with an American family is a very popular choice for many students,
because it gives them an opportunity to experience American culture and
practice English at home. Your American family may be a couple with or
without children, or a single person. You will have a private room.
Most
families live 3 to 10 kilometers from WESLI, or about 15 to 45 minutes
by bus. A monthly bus pass costs $39. Most families do not permit smoking
in the house.
Most food is provided by the host family, but students
might not always be able to go from WESLI back to their homestays for
lunch, so some extra money for food should be budgeted — approximately
$100 a month.
Dormitory/Apartments
WESLI's new dormitory/ apartment was just completed in August 2003. Four students share a two bedroom, two bathroom suite in the dormitory. Single bedrooms may be available for an additional cost. Please ask us if you are interested in a single room.
There is a full kitchen and a living room in the suite. The suite is fully equipped with everything that students need: furniture, linens, pillows, towels, dishes, silverware, cable TV, VCR, DVD & CD player, phone service with unlimited local calls, and high speed internet access. The dormitory is located one block from WESLI. There are many interesting shops, restaurants, coffee houses, and parks in the area. The dormitory fee doesn't include meals. For students who don't like to cook for themselves, meal plans are available through local cafeterias.
Please note that students who live in the dormitory need to pay a $200 refundable deposit for keys and cleaning, directly to the dormitory before checking in.
